From that point began an amazing, colorful, and complex history, some of which is touched upon in the articles in this section. These pieces focus not so much on repeating the details of Muslim history as on exploring various questions therein--questions such as the tension between tradition and modernity in the Muslim world, the rise of Arab nationalism, and the historical relations between the Western and Arab spheres, especially the influence of revolutionary France on Islam. |
