Over the past two decades, The World & I has kept one focus
in mind: How to create a viable connection between the world
and myself. In 1986, when The World & I began as a monthly
print publication, that was a real challenge to tackle.
Through advances in technology, however, we are now just a
click away from anyplace in the world. I can reach the
world, and the world can reach me!
Unfortunately, despite the rise of instant communication and
global networks, the world remains a place filled with
barriers, isolation, and animosity. We cannot simply replace
the need for healthy human interaction with cables and wires
that connect us in a virtual space. But neither should we
disregard the benefits of this new technological era.
Therefore, to address the need for greater cross-cultural
understanding and mutual respect between the various peoples
of the world, The World & I Online has launched a World
Gallery. Its purpose is to provide a forum for all
individuals, organizations, and countries to present what is
good and honorable about their culture through images and
music, with the intention of advancing a spirit of peace and
cooperation.
Education is our first priority at The World & I Online, for
with knowledge comes understanding. We believe that it is
still possible to spread peace in this world, but only with
a constant dedication to keeping an open mind. As you
explore our World Gallery, may it enrich your appreciation
of other peoples and lands different from your own. However,
we encourage you to go one step further and take advantage
of this forum to share your world with the world.
