The cow said: “Bring me some grass, then I’ll make it for you.”  The cat went into the wheat field and plucked some weeds.  These it gave to the cow.

The cow made some dung for the granary’s hole.  The granary gave some grain for the hen. The hen laid an egg for Master Smith.  Master Smith made some bracelets for the girls.  The girls danced around the spring.  The spring gave water for the plane tree.  The plane tree gave leaves for the little goat.  The goat gave milk for the old woman, and the old woman gave the cat back its tail.

The Clever Little Bird

One day a little bird was hopping around in an abandoned campsite.  On the ground, it saw a tuft of wool from the fleece of a sheep.  The little bird took it and flew to a camp where a woman was sitting in front of her black tent.  The little bird said: “Card it for me, card it fluffy, but if you can’t card wool, I’ll do it myself.”

The woman said: “Why, sure I can card wool!” And she carded the little tuft of wool.  The bird took the wool, flew to another camp, and said to a woman sitting there in front of her black tent: “Spin it for me, spin it fast, but if you can’t spin wool, I’ll do it myself.”  So the woman spun the wool on her drop spindle.

The bird took the ball of yarn, flew to another camp, and said to a woman there: “Stretch it for me, stretch it tight, but if you can’t stretch yarn, I’ll do it myself.”
