Once
upon a time there lived a louse. Now, this louse decided
to leave her husband and go out into the world to search
for a new groom. On the road she met a dove.“Louse,
O Louse,” he called.“Where are you going?”

The
enamored louse finally married the rat after rejecting
four other suitors. They were happy together .. for
a while.
|
To
which the louse replied, I am off to marry another!
Will you marry me?the dove cooed in a lovesick
voice.
So the louse asked him, How will you prove your love
for me?
The pigeon answered, I will spread my wings and fold
you up inside, feed you grain, and sing you a sweet lullaby:
Goota-rungo!
The louse cried out, Oh, no! Who will ever marry you?
And so saying, she tinkled the dainty bells at her heels
and marched onward.
On the road she met a crow.
Louse, O Louse, he called. Where are you
going?
To which the louse replied, I am off to marry another!
The crow cawed in a voice melting with love, Will you
marry me?
So the louse asked him, How will you prove your love
for me?
