Lashed to the raft with liana vines, Kabubu was heaved about by the waves["Kabubu the Pigeon,"].

One day Mahatara decided to create inhabitants for the empty earth.  Taking a stick from the garing tree, he carved a male figure on one end and a female figure on the other.  This was a wonderful work of art, and the creator dropped it to earth.  It fell through the clouds and landed on a rock, where it broke in half.  The part with the female statue lay on the land, but the part with the male statue fell in the water and floated downstream until it landed on an island.  There it woke up and became a man, taking the name of Tunggal Garing Janjahunan Laut (Lonely Garing, Risen from the Sea).  The female statue also came to life, and she called herself Puteri Bulau Julah Karangan (the Golden Princess from the Rock).

The man made a boat and rowed to the mainland; there, he met the woman and lived with her.  The woman had her first period in the water, so her blood became the wicked water sprites.  The next month she had her period on land, and her blood became the evil sprites on earth.  The third time it happened in the forest, and her blood became the jungle demons.  Upon seeing all these inauspicious beings, Mahatara became alarmed.  He descended to earth, taught the human couple how they should live as man and wife, and instituted holy matrimony.

After their wedding, the couple lived for many years in bliss and had three sons: Sangiang, Sangen, and Bunu.

Sangiang was born with a piece of iron (sanaman lampang, probably ironwood or teakwood) in his hand.  He spent his life making tools and utensils of all kinds.

Sangen was born with many seeds in his hand.  He spent his life sowing and planting, so that his children would have enough to eat and to store.

The youngest son, Bunu, was born holding a piece of real iron (sanaman leteng, or sinking iron).  It was a dangerous present.  From it he made the first weapons, and with them he waged the first war, against his brother Sangiang.  With his effective weapon, Bunu killed his brother, and he would have become ruler if god had not intervened.  Mahatara came down to earth once more, bringing a flask of danum kaharingan (the water that creates eternal life), the most precious substance in the universe.  With it Mahatara revived the firstborn son of the first couple, thus making him immortal.
